The first days in kindergarten are a great experience for a parent and small child. That is why it is worth preparing for this important event and not making any basic mistakes.

Do not ask if the child is afraid

Kids see reality as we do. Unknowingly absorb all our fears and doubts. Therefore, instead of asking if the child is afraid or will miss mommy, it is better to present the vision of going to kindergarten as attractive. It is worth emphasizing what the toddler may like: the presence of peers, the opportunity to play with new toys, etc.

Play in kindergarten

The child learns through play. Therefore, before a toddler becomes a preschooler, it is worth playing with him in kindergarten. While playing, you can smuggle a lot of valuable information, show how the kindergarten works, what its rules are. You can also reach for books that tell about the first days in kindergarten, created just to prepare the toddler for adaptation in a new place for him.

You can also go to the kindergarten area and show your child this place. Play there. Maybe you can even use the kindergarten playground. Perhaps in the area you will meet other children who will be in the group with your little one. Paint at home, make clay, sing. Do everything the toddler will then do in kindergarten.

Adapt the day plan

On the websites of most kindergartens you can read the plan of the day. It's worth doing to see how similar it is to your home rituals. Perhaps you will be able to slightly modify the children's day plan to get the child used to the new rules.

If this is not possible due to too large discrepancies, it is worth stopping at least at the beginning with the application of the morning ritual that will give the child a sense of security. It can be established that you will always tell your child a story or leave the same game five minutes before going to kindergarten.

Learn independence

It is worth supporting the child's need for independence from the very beginning, when the toddler is willing to do something "alone". That is why it is worth teaching your child how to eat independently around the first year of life, around the second birthday, when the child is ready for it, try to part with the diaper. Then focus on learning how to dress and wash.
Let's not hinder the child's tasks. Let's give up blouses, let's choose clothes easy to put on and comfortable. The best are looser pants with an elastic band and a sweatshirt worn over the head. Let's choose what tights your toddler will wear or what kind of t-shirt he will wear on a given day in kindergarten. Let the child decide about himself in some sense.

Adaptation classes in kindergarten

In parallel with the preparations at home, it is worth enrolling your toddler for adaptation classes that will help to tame the child with a changing reality. They are usually planned for Saturdays. Babies can come to the kindergarten with their parents and play with other children in their presence. Over time, you can leave your child for an hour or two in the care of the ladies in kindergarten to wait for the next stage: that is, going to kindergarten on a weekday.
If your child has been with your mother or dad so far at home and very rarely stayed with someone else, it is worth asking your aunt or grandmother for help. Let the toddler know that you can have fun not only with your parents, but also with other family members. The first breakups should not be long - they should last an hour or two, with time this period can be extended.

Say goodbye quickly and tenderly

Nobody likes long farewells, also a child. The longer kisses and hugs last, the more difficult it is to part. Therefore, the farewell should be tender but as short as possible. You need to control your own stress and anxiety, which will immediately transfer to the child. It's also good to let your toddler take an object to kindergarten that will give him courage: a favorite teddy bear or a toy car.
Even if tears appear, give kisses and leave. It's difficult, but it's the only good tactic. You can be sure that the child will not despair for a long time and quickly forget about his sadness. The child's emotions are violent, but as soon as they appear, they can pass quickly.

Appreciate all successes

The toddler was praised by the lady in kindergarten, painted a picture, put together puzzles. Appreciate all progress! Praise your child, but never color. You can also praise your daughter or little son with other people.
Keep your word

Your child should know that he can count on you. Therefore, be verbal. Don't fool the toddler. Don't say mommy will be here behind the wall if you can't keep your word. Don't sneak home quietly if you promise you won't move anywhere. Even if a toddler should cry, let him know that you are honest with him. This is a very important lesson!
Receive your toddler whenever you promised. If your arrival is to be planned after dinner, you will appear on time, if after tea, do not be late. If you fail to keep your promise, apologize and admit your mistake. Only in this way will the child feel that the world is not out of control and can count on the most important people in his life.

Talk to educators in kindergarten

When a child goes to kindergarten, parents are still responsible for his upbringing. This is clear, but third parties are beginning to have some influence. That is why it is worth talking to the kindergarten teachers and ask not only about dinner, but about activities that the child finds difficult, about contacts with other children, etc. Thanks to this, you will be able to deal with any problems.

Each child experiences adaptation differently

Every child is different. Therefore, adaptation is different in each case. One toddler can adapt to the new mode properly from day to day, and in the case of the second one it can take several weeks. In both cases it is the norm. Every child has the right to adapt individually.
